Detectives Arrest Man on Felony Gun and Drug-Related Charges in New Castle County

CrimLaw13

The Delaware State Police with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation recently arrested a 41-year-old suspect from Middletown DE for felony gun and drug-related charges following the conclusion of a several months-long investigation in Newcastle County.

According to police, in the early morning hours of July 17, 2024, members of Newcastle County Governor’s Task Force Troop 2 drug unit and Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team executed search warrants at a residence on Goodwick Drive in Middletown and a business property associated with the suspect on South DuPont highway in Newcastle. The suspect was suspected of large-scale drug distribution of narcotics. He was taken into custody at his residence without incident. A search of the property led to the discovery of the following items:

  • 2 loaded handguns
  • Multiple rounds of ammunition
  • Approximately 348 grams of a fentanyl, heroin, and xylazine mixture
  • Approximately $7,600 in suspected drug dealing proceeds
  • Various paraphernalia to include digital scales, hot plates, and distribution/packaging materials

Following the execution of the search warrants detectives were able to determine the suspect was operating a heroin processing mill and cocaine distribution center from the location on South DuPont highway due to the evidence that was discovered inside the business. Police recovered 348 grams of heroin mixture. The seizure prevented approximately 50,000 bags of heroin from being manufactured and distributed throughout the state of Delaware.

Computer records indicated that the suspect was a convicted felon and was prohibited from possessing firearms and or ammunition. The suspect was taken to Troop 2 where he was discharged with the crimes listed below arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $203,000 cash bond.

Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance

Delaware law makes it a crime to manufacture drugs, deliver drugs to another person, or possess drugs with the intent to deliver them. In addition, specific quantities of drugs can automatically qualify you to be charged under this drug dealing statute. Those who possess drugs over a Tier 3 quantity or possess drugs in a Tier 1 quantity and there is at least one aggravating factor can be charged with Drug Dealing – Aggravated Possession. This is the most serious drug crime in Delaware. Depending on how much illegal drugs you were caught with and the types of drugs you were caught with, you can face a sentencing range from a Class D to a Class B felony.
